Description

Ana Mirtha Gutiérrez, author of the text, wrote these messages in the language of the Ancient Antartida, by revelaron or intuition. Music came to me while I was reading them at the subway in Madrid, so many steps deep in earth. Who knows what energies move in those deep spaces to connect us with those further dimensions in time-space.

Primera Antártida is written for the four voces of women’s choros A cau d’orella (Valencia), conducted by Monica Perales, who I know since I was a teenager and I wrote so many cantatas for her children’s choruses. This women’s chorus is so inspiring that I decided to write a piece for them, trying to explore its vocal resources.

The piece, divided into introduction and four strophes, plays with ancient and modern modes and harmonies, and with a metric that totally obeys the musical flow. With a climate of praying, invocating, the piece transports the audience to a further aeon, inviting them to remember.

The piece was premiered at the 1st Coral Series of the Asociación Mujeres en la Música.
