The Saxapil Quartet from Altea (Alicante) commissioned me years ago to arrange it for saxophone quartet, and here I share this beauty, which is part of various ensembles&#8217; repertoire. This journey to Granados&#8217; floating worlds is the second <em><strong>ArteSon\u00eda<\/strong><\/em> gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The original piano work is a delight, especially when performed by the great Rosa Torres-Pardo:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oriental (Granados) \u00b7 Rosa Torres-Pardo para LVeM\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/760241808?h=1f654aeec3&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ll catch Rosa Torres-Pardo for the Palanca section, as she&#8217;s a very inspiring musician who has opened paths for all of us dedicated to music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Saxapil Quartet from Altea, responsible for today&#8217;s ArteSon\u00eda, was formed by Ignacio Solana (soprano), Alejandro Juarez (alto), Antoni J.Barber (tenor), and Felipe Zaragoz\u00ed (baritone), all professors at local conservatories and teaching colleagues at the MUSA summer courses in Altea, directed by Felipe Zaragoz\u00ed himself (the quartet&#8217;s baritone) where I taught composition and improvisation during the summers of 2014 and 2015. The soprano sax sometimes plays the role of snake charmer, or hypnotic melody, while the others also carry sinuous melodies that create a great sensation of weightlessness.
