SANTA POLA: CoroDelantal MACA @ Museo del Mar

CoroDelantal MACA (Aprons chorus from the Contemporary Art Museum of Alicante) has been rehearsing for some days at the Sea Museum of Santa Pola, that has its headquarters in a fantastic building from the 16th Century:

ALICANTE: Concierto de Solsticio de Invierno del CoroDelantal MACA

Ever since human beings became astronomically aware, they have celebrated solstices and equinoxes with festivities full of rituals of all kinds. The Church would appropriate these dates calling them Christmas, St. John, St. Joseph or La Merced, but we must not forget their pagan origin. In this winter solstice concert, CoroDelantal MACA takes us into artistic and ritual worlds from which we will come out transformed and listening.

SANTA POLA: Workshop on vocal experimentation

Cultural Association Millor-Art, from Santa Pola, organizes along with Museo del Mar this workshop on vocal experimentation. The workshop is an approach to the work that I make with CoroDelantal, and consists on three rehearsals and a final show. The goal is liberating our voice and express ourselves through it.

Se llevará a cabo en la Sala Baluarte del Castillo de Santa Pola.

Sessions on July 2023:

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Saturday 15, from 10:00 am to 12:45 pm

Show to the audience at 1:00 pm

ALICANTE: Closing CoroDelantal MACA 2023/24 with Llorenç Barber and Montse Palacios

We had the big fortune at our Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA) of receiving historical figures from the performance art and experimental music in Spain Llorenç Barber and Montserrat Palacios.

We performed together in differents points from the building and give a talk on our projects and worries.

We are happy because we recieved a big river of audience, even if it was a Tuesday afternoon.

MADRID: ‘Alzo aquí’ by Coro Nur

Inspired piece Alzo aquí, created on a poem by Mayan shaman Gustavo Pineda and dedicated to José Manuel López Blanco, will be sung by the second time by Coro Nur, the group that José Manuel formed some years ago, and his main project.

ALICANTE: CoroDelantal MACA

CoroDelantal is a vocal experimentation group founded in New York City in 2011, replied in Madrid at the end of 2012, and currently based at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA) since fall 2021. Conceived and directed by composer Sonia Megías López as a laboratory for developing unusual scores, the chorus operates through collective performances that blur the boundaries between the arts.

The proposal for fall 2025 will consist of a three-month workshop with weekly meetings lasting two and a half hours each. The following collaborations are highlights of this quarter:
– With Madrid-based composer Marisa Manchado, winner of the 2024 National Music Composition Award, who will be our guest artist for the quarter.
– With New York composer John Gilbert, whose Christmas carols we will revisit in collaboration with the Banda Unión Musical de Santa Pola, adapting them to a small format to be performed at the MACA.
