Program notes

Video-score commissioned by INAEM – Spanish Music Festival of Cádiz.

The premiere took place in the context of the Cádiz Women Composers Workshop, at the Spanish Music Festival, @ La Tía Norica Puppet Theater, alongside other women composers’ pieces dealing with artificial intelligence. This work sought to recall what it means to be human, love, and the growth that arises from the interdependence between living beings. This contrasts with the dependence on machines achieved by artificial intelligence.

Embrace & Breathe is an invocation to humanity, to embracing, to breathing, to subtlety. To remembering what makes us who we are, to differentiating ourselves from machines. Faced with a reality where memory is a USB stick, beauty is a facelift, and contemplation means unproductivity, this work invites us to breathe as part of the cosmos, of the Immensity, of the luck of being alive.

Animations by Carlos Cueto and Pepe Gimeno’s suggestions have been invaluable in the construction of the video score, which is directed equally at both the audience and the performers; there is no difference.
