Program notes

Murcia, first year of Composition studies at the Conservatorio Superior “Manuel Massotti Littel”. One of the first structures taught in the composition technique class is the Sonata.

To put our knowledge into practice, professor Manuel Seco de Arpe asked us to write a sonata for violin and piano, and here it is. It is dedicated to Pilar Crespo, a very dear friend and one of my favorite violinists.

This little sonata is divided into four movements: I. Allegro, II. Andante, III. Rondeau and IV. Scherzo. In these movements, of tonal-modal character, I let myself be influenced by currents of the history of classical music.

The work was premiered in June 2010 in the Monographic concert dedicated to me by the Aula de Música of the University of Alcalá de Henares, by Pablo Gastaminza on the violin and María Silvera on the piano.
